If wheat flour (gluten) and peanut butter (sugar in most varieties) are part of the ingredients of a recipe, then it is not a valid diet option. Freston's support of a vegan diet would have been stronger with less criticism of the meat and dairy industries. Then try the Internet for vegan recipes that can be altered to eliminate sugar and gluten. And yet, a caffeine-free diet soda is, despite the damaging chemicals it contains. For someone who is only interested in the cleanse diet, open the book to the suggested shopping list, make a few notes, and put it back on the shelf. Those arguments drag what was supposed to be a move based on nutrition and personal spirituality into the political and environmental arena. The points are valid, but out of place.I also dislike that the menu suggestions and recipes repeatedly break the gluten-free rule and sometimes the sugar-free rule.
I am in week 1 of her cleanse and I have truly never FELT BETTER in my entire life. I have always been someone who tries to take care of myself in the mental, physical, and emotional way, but I have never really recognized the true connection of the 3 until Kathy Freston's book, Quantum Wellness. A must read. It's just too easy and too great and I am SO thankful to Kathy and this book. Kathy talks of so many tiny things that we take for granted, since we tend to live in our routines without taking account for things, and reminds us to live consciously---in SUCH a kind and easy way. She recommends "leaning" into things and not take on too much, just what you can now, to make yourself and the world a better place.
After you read this book it may be a good time to consider reading my book entitled "The Enlightenment, What God Told Me After One Million Prayers, a Message for Everyone" (See Profile Above) The book systematically addresses what it means to be healthy in mind, body and spirit and how the three are inextricably entwined. Quantum Wellness: A Practical and Spiritual Guide to Health and Happiness by Kathy Freston is a book that offers the reader eight Pillers of Wellness: Meditation, Exercise, Visualization, Spiritual practice which according to the author is compassion for others who are suffering. Some of the other Pillers are Self-work, Services and Fun activities.
It is great information to be aware of and not hide from. I purchased her book, and I loved it. Thank you Kathy for sharing your earnst passion and convictions with us. I saw an interview with Kathy on Oprah. I now have her book on my website as suggested reading. Kathy explained conscious eating like I've never heard before. I can remember where I was standing and can still feel the goose bumps. At that moment, I comprehended on a deep level the spiritual aspect of not eating meat, and from that moment on I have not had a piece of meat.
She also talks about vegetarianism from a spiritual perspective, asking if we would want to consume the pain and fear that become a part of animals' flesh. This has a very light tone, written with the hope of educating and inspiring. I am so glad I did. This book will show you that vegetarianism is much more than just a diet but rather a better way of living. It was a book that sent you on a guilt trip and force fed information to you. This was the book that turned me into a veggie for life.
The $25 price tag of this book is what turned me off, but then I found it on sale, so I decided on this book and left Skinny Bitch behind. Kathy educates us on factory farming and reiterates that what we think is rare animal abuse is actually the norm. Sadly, the woman who introduced the book to me was recently stuffing a turkey on her favorite things show. That's not at all what this book is. The wellness gained from reading this book and practicing its teachings far outweigh the small small void of ditching meat. While there is a lot more to this book than just becoming a vegetarian, it is the only thing I held onto. When I was first thinking of buying this book, I was also considering buying Skinny Bitch.
Had a read Skinny Bitch, I don't think I would be a vegetarian today.
